Veterans League

Thursday is the first Finals Day of the Veterans League individual knock-out competitions where the last eight bowlers meet up at Lockwood Con to determine the outcome of the 2026 competition. The full story of the qualifying stages can be found in our earlier report. There are two home bowlers, Mick Cox and Peter Kain, in the final eight and they meet up in the quarter-finals with the winner to be installed as the favourite for the title.

Mick Cox is a previous winner of the title in 2024 and he is the only previous winner left in contention. Kirkheaton Con also have two representatives in the quarter-finals as my pair's partner, Gordon Walker, and I have somehow managed to find ourselves among this otherwise elite group. It all starts at Lockwood Con from 1.30pm tomorrow (Thursday 7 May).
