Winter League

The first two formal applications from new teams to join the Winter League have already been submitted with Outlane and Broad Oak teams next in line to feed the winter bowling craving. We are also aware that at least two existing league teams are looking to add extra teams to the league next season. We welcome further additions for the 2023-24 season which commences in October.

The Winter League has just concluded its most successful season to date with 40 teams playing every week since the beginning of October. Plenty of time for more teams to sign up for next season with the closing date for new teams not until the first Monday in July.

Recently we posted an article about looking ahead to the 2023-24 season and in that we said that we are preparing to add a Division 6 to our league structure such is the continuing and growing interest in winter bowling.

If you are thinking about taking that interest a little further then a good place to start is by reading the updated document on the Ultimate Guide to Winter Bowling which outlines what the League is all about. This has just been updated to include all the very latest information and experiences available. We aim to satisfy all levels of levels of competition and every team is equally important in contributing to the success of the League.

The basics of team involvement are:

  • All bowlers have had their 60th birthday

  • Open to male and female bowlers

  • Teams of 4 persons

  • Matches of 2 Singles and 1 Pairs games

  • Your own green is not required

  • You play on the same green on the same day of the week all season

  • The season starts early October and finishes mid-February

  • Matchday fees are £10 per team to cover green fees, refreshments and a raffle ticket

We are also looking for a new host club to open up their green for the 2023-24 winter season and enjoy the benefits of so doing which are financial, social and raising the profile of your club locally. Again the Ultimate Guide to Winter Bowling explains a little more about what is involved but teams are welcome to contact us for more details and we would welcome the opportunity to sit down with a gathering of your club officials and greenkeeper to work through the issues about extending the bowling season on your green.
