One team didn't want Christmas to come

A preview of the Division 5 fixtures to be played at Netherton Con on Thursday 5 January

Christmas came at the wrong time for Brockholes 'B' as they beat the table toppers, Thorpe Green 'C', 6-2 in their last Division 5 match before the break and were looking forward to the next match.

Instead they had to turn to festive duties and only now can pick up the momentum that their last win provided. They will be hoping to build on that performance when they meet the only team below them in the table this Thursday, the Rugby Club. The Christmas break came at exactly the right time for them on the back of two 0-8 defeats so the break was most welcome.

Despite that shock defeat Thorpe Green 'C' continue to set the pace at the top of the table and hope that the Christmas break has given them the time to regroup and re-establish their supremacy over all their opponents. That will be tested this week when they take on Netherton Con 'B' who have drawn 3 of their last 4 fixtures and a fourth one would be a good outcome for them.

Springwood 'C' and Milnsbridge 'C' are two teams that still harbour hopes of promotion this season but it is Milnsbridge that are the form team with a recent record of being unbeaten in five to claim second spot as their own and will not be looking to relinquish the second promotion place without a staunch defence of their position.

Almondbury BC 'B' will be looking to take advantage of any slip up by Milnsbridge and are now just two points behind them and this week take on Golcar C&BC. Form indicates that the Almondbury side should take the bulk of the spoils as they are unbeaten in their last five matches, drawing the last three of them. But they will also be aware that their last defeat was at the hands of this week's opponents and that was by a whitewash 0-8 scoreline. So plenty to look forward to as the teams pick up the challenges that awaits them as we move into the business end of the season.
