Ladies Works League

RESULTS 17-21 May

The big game of the week, maybe of the season, saw Atkinsons Butchers put a firm stake in the ground in defence of their Division 1 title when overwhelming last season's runners-up Alicia Dawn Photography by 159-109. The reigning Champions won 6 of the 8 rubbers but surprisingly Linda Gledhill was not among those 6 losing for the first time for a long time. Linda won all 13 of her matches last season (2019) to top the individual averages table but was outmaneuvered by new signing Alison Brennan by 21-13. However this is a team game and the better team won on an away green to put themselves at the top of the early table. The home side needn't be too downhearted about the result as they lost the same fixture last season (2019) and it was the only one they lost all season going on to win at their prime opponents home green to take the race to the top to the final day of the season.

Brook Hansen 'A' made it two wins from their opening two matches by notching up a 141-119 victory over Bolster Moor Farm Shop at Golcar C&BC. The teams shared the games 4-4 but a stronger all-round performance from the visitors brought the bacon home with a good away win. Brook Hansen are making a habit of this because the previous week they lost the matches 3-5 but still won the aggregate against Strait Kutz which is the only measure that counts. The Linthwaite Hall based Strait Kutz side had a good 162-129 home win when seeing off Huddersfield Recreation Club winning 6 of the 8 rubbers to prove conclusive winners.

One game over the past week in Division 2 and this saw Holmes Dresser make it two wins from two games to go second in the table behind early leaders D.Haigh & Co. A more decisive scoreline than their one-point win last week as they beat Brook Hansen 'B' 142-89 who were playing their first game of the new season.
