Winter League
Planning continues for the coming Winter League season with good interest from new teams about joining the League. However that interest may be quelled by the lack of news about a new host green for the coming season. We have been very fortunate over the past 5 seasons to have been supported by clubs coming forward offering their greens which has matched the demand from the number of teams wanting to join in the success of the new format and novelty of winter bowling.
What is in it for the host clubs? Well they can expect to make a profit of between £2,500 to £4,000 for a 14-week hosting arrangement. If clubs can offer an open bar arrangement then the profits will be at the top end of those figures but we have host greens without a bar making over £3,000 as well. The financial benefits are the major incentive for clubs to get involved but it quickly becomes more than that.
Host clubs have reported on a higher profile for their clubs as a result of being open right through the winter with increased membership another side benefit. You really have to experience a Winter League matchday to appreciate the social aspects that come with it. Matchdays produce their own little communities with the same eight teams turning up each week in friendly rivalry but with an edge of competition. It really is a unique experience.
Any club wanting to learn more about the role of becoming a host green should contact the League Secretary now. No obligation but a fact finding exercise to fully appreciate what the role entails and the benefits that will accrue. Email Jeff Jacklin on jefftheref2000@yahoo.co.uk or phone him on 07968 171 197. We look forward to talking to you soon.
