New team joins the Inter-District League

League News

The Yorkshire Veterans Inter-District League competition gets underway on Friday when the Huddersfield team will be looking to improve on their final runners-up position of last year. They start the season playing the Skipton team with the 8-man teams playing home and away on the same day.

Huddersfield have named two quads of 10 bowlers each with selection to be made on the day. The Huddersfield home team is from Alan Bamforth, John Bloomer, Andy Carter, Tony Cross, Ashley Daykin, Robert Dickinson, Stephen Haigh, Peter Kain, Ray Whitwam and Andy Wike. The Manager is David Armitage and non-playing captain Frank Greenwood.

The Huddersfield away team travels to Crosshills, Junction, Crosshills BD20 7DD and will be selected from Malcolm Gilbert (captain), Adrian Cooper, Tony Butterfield, Edwin Haigh, Derrick Hewitt, Peter Hopkinson, Dave Pollard, Tim Poulter, Gary Senior and Roger Stopford. Team Manager is Alan Sharpe.

There is a new representative team from Airedale & Wharfdale joining the League this season making nine teams in the competition. It will be interesting to see how the new team performs at this level. They will be well tested in the opening round of fixtures as they take on the Leeds team who won the competition last year which was their first back in the League after a few years when they were a very different team to the last Leeds one.
