New name on Over-70's KO trophy

Veterans League

There is going to be new name on the Over-70's KO trophy this year as none of the 8 quarter-finalists have won the title before. In the latest round of the 2024 competition held on Thursday the 2023 title holder, Graham Hirst of Lowerhouses, went out in the second round going down 18-21 to Netherton Con bowler Paul Rangeley. In the previous round three-times-winner of this competition, Eddie Haigh also went out going down 17-21 to Peter Hopkinson of Golcar Lib. That means that only one Lockwood Con bowler will be playing on their home green as the competition moves on to the quarter-finals. Home bowler Mick Cox may be favourite to lift the title for the first time but there are two other scratch bowlers in that half of the draw who will ensure that the finalist, whoever it may be, will deserve to be there. Two of those scratch quarter-finalists are Clayton West teammates as Tim Poulter and Malcolm Gilbert fight it out for a semi-final place. A completely different mix in the top half of the draw as the four quarter-finalists all have a 4, 5 or 6 handicap and represent four different clubs.

All the results so far are listed below. Finals Day of the 2024 competition is at Lockwood Con on Thursday 30 May.
