New leaders for Divisions 3, 4 & 5

Veterans League

Review of the Tuesday results in Divisions 3,4&5 in the Veterans 10-Man League

New Mill A were knocked off top spot in Division 3 after losing narrowly away to Lindley Lib B by 4-5 after a 122-123 aggregate loss. That slip-up enabled Golcar Lib B to take over at the top of the table after a 6-3 home win over Thorpe Green. Despite the big win for the Lindley Lib B team they stay in 4th place in the table as third-placed Brockholes A extended their 100% win record with a convincing 7-2 home win over Holmfirth A.

The bottom-of-the-table clash between Paddock I&C and Springwood went the way of the home team as Paddock I&C collected a big home win beating Springwood 8-1 which left the losers six points off the pace. Paddock I&C were one of only two bottom half of the table teams to record a win this week with Kirkheaton C&BC AS being the other with a 6-3 home win over Skel Windmill.

With all five of the top teams in Division 4 facing away fixtures this Tuesday such movement was expected but as the top two teams both won their respective fixtures it meant that their lead was extended to four points. Kirkheaton Con B won 6-3 at Lockwood Con B to leave their opponents at the foot of the table but it wasn't good enough to hold on to first place as the Rugby Club went one better with a 7-2 away win at David Brown Sports to take the lead on a better aggregate score total of 521-515 over their old rivals from Kirkheaton. That also adds value to the fact that both teams were promoted from Division 5 last season and the Kirkheaton lads retained the only unbeaten record in the division.

Brockholes B, Thongsbridge B and Ravensknowle Park also started the day in the top half of the table but none of them won their away fixtures causing a shuffle of places. Thongsbridge dropped a place to third after losing 4-5 (aggregate 114-115) at Milnsbridge B but Brockholes B and Ravensknowle Park both suffered heavy defeats to lost ground in the promotion race. Brockholes B going down 0-9 as Marsh Lib gate-crashed their way through to third place (from 7th) and the Park team lost 1-8 at Meltham B who move up three places to 5th spot. A 6-3 home win for Huddersfield Recreation Club over an eight-man Marsh United B team wasn't good enough to stop the losers narrowing the place gap between the two teams to one place

The top two teams in Division 5 played each other this week and ended up swapping positions after Netherton Con B beat Broad Oak B 7-2 to go top of the pile. Lindley BC B struggled to beat Kirkheaton C&BC B and so hold on to third position. But it was a tight affair with a 5-4 home win for the Lindley outfit with a 114-112 aggregate scoreline clinching the extra points, which was remarkable when you realise that the visiting Kirkheaton Cricket team only had 9 bowlers.

Only one Division 5 team won when playing away from home this week and that was lowly Dalton who beat Greenhead Park with the two teams swapping places as a result with the 7-2 scoreline favouring the Dalton team. There were also home wins for Hemplow B (7-2 over Primrose Hill Lib), Holmfirth B (7-2 over Almondbury BC B) and New Mill B who beat Marsh Lib B 6-3.
