The threat to running the wide range of knock-out competitions in the Veterans League in 2023 looks to have been averted. The previous obvious solution to not having a Competition Secretary was to suspend all knock-out competitions until a new official could be announced and the League was apparently prepared to do that.

The League is now advertising on it's Bowlsnet home page contact details for the new Competition Secretary, Steve Lee of Lowerhouses BC. For your information those contact details are Mobile: 07964083551 Email Address: stevelee@blueyonder.co.uk
The League has a total of 11 knock-out competitions held annually. Four of them being team knock-outs (Bistro, Team KO, Sub-Team KO and the Julie Fuller Trophy) and the other 7 being individual and pairs knock-out competitions (Rose Bowl, Over-70s, Over-80's, Pairs, Over-70's Pairs, John Hoyle Trophy and the Lower Divisions Trophy).
Steve Lee's appointment will presumably be rubber-stamped at the AGM in February but the threat to suspending all 11 competitions until a Secretary could be recruited now appears to have been averted. This appointment seems unlikely to do anything to repair the split in the Management Committee although the balance of power may be shifting.
The position of General Secretary remains vacant although one individual approached about the role was considering it until he decided that 'the League is living in the dark ages', his words. In particular, the number of meetings that were held and the insistence of retaining the labour-intensive preparation of the Year Book, which is the responsibility of the General Secretary, were key in his decision to take the offer no further.
Another reminder that any club looking to add a new team to the Veterans League for the 2023 season has until Monday 9 January to make that formal application to the League. The formation of the League and its divisions will then be decided by the Management Committee at their scheduled meeting on 16 January.
