It is the survey season and here comes another one. The Sport & Recreation Alliance is undertaking a survey of grassroots sports, like crown green bowling, to understand how COVID-19 has damaged such activity. This survey aims to inform the powers that be about future support and funding that may be required at grassroots levels for our sports and activities to survive and then thrive. You have a voice in how that is managed.

The Sports & Recreation Alliance introduces and explains all about the survey to potential participants.
The survey forms part of the Save Our Sports campaign which is seeking to gain support for grassroots organisations so that we can continue delivering the benefits of physical activity for the long-term.
It has been developed with a view to producing an accurate, robust sector-wide understanding of the challenges our grassroots deliverers face both with restrictions remaining in place, and for their return to play in the future.
In effect, the purpose of this survey is to firmly establish the scale and scope of the ‘need’ grassroots organisations have because of COVID-19 restrictions.
The last year has been incredibly tough for community clubs. Lockdowns, restrictions and social distancing has seen many temporarily close or struggle to deliver their much-loved activities.
The Sport and Recreation Alliance is working with Sheffield Hallam University to understand how the COVID-19 pandemic has affected grassroots activity.
If you are a sport and recreation volunteer who helps to run your club – please take 10 minutes to complete this survey which will allow us to understand what you need and how we can work to get every grassroots club re-opened and ready to welcome back your participants.
By gaining an accurate picture of what has happened to your membership, income and ability to operate – we will be able to more accurately support you in our conversations with government and other partners.

The survey closes on 14 February 2021.
Having tried to complete this survey I doubt if any Club Official would have all the information readily available to complete it. I only managed with a fair bit of guessing. This is a survey attempting to cover all sports and consequently a lot of the questions don’t apply to bowling. I have doubts about the use of such generalist surveys for any sport - at least it keeps someone in employment.
