Preview of all the Monday fixtures in Divisions 4 and 10

DIVISION 10
HOLMFIRTH B certainly caught the eye last week with their 8-0 success over Almondbury BC C on the opening day of the Division 10 season. Their victory may not have been totally unexpected but a full house 8-0 score was not expected by many. Can they follow up with a second 8-0 success of the season? It will certainly be a tough ask against Skelmanthorpe Central’s A team on their home green. The Central side were 6-2 winners against Brockholes D as they opened their season in style and will probably go into their second fixture of the season as favourites.
Central’s B side had an identical result as their A team a week ago with a 6-2 success over Brockholes E. Based on last week’s results they will be fancying their chances of a high-scoring win over the Almondbury side that sit at the bottom of the league table. However, we all know that all sports can throw up the surprise results and the Almondbury side will no doubt be hoping for one this week.
There is an interesting inter-club clash between Brockholes C and D sides this week, whilst D’s defeat last week has already been mentioned their C side started their campaign with a 6-2 successive over Marsh Lib C. So judging by those results C should be better than D, though of course inter-club rivalry should also be taken into account and at this stage of the season it’s sometimes better to sit on the fence.
So can Marsh Lib C collect a win this week? They will be trying against Brockholes E in the final fixture of the second round of games in Division 10. Fingers crossed for some good weather and the usual entertaining bowling.

DIVISION 4
ACTION starts at Thorpe Green on Monday for the teams in Division 4, a division which previously used the green at Primrose Hill. Of those teams who did well in Division 4 last term and remaining at that level this year Netherton Con A did the best in finishing third, they have an intriguing start to the season with an encounter against a Mirfield side who gained promotion from division 5.
The other team heading upwards into Division 4 is Rastrick A who make the jump up from finishing as champions in Division 10. They have a tough start to their season with Lindley BC B being their opponents – the Lindley side were relegated from Division 3 so last season were bowling seven divisions higher than Rastrick.
Springwood A were also relegated from Division 3 and start out this term facing Lindley Lib C. The Lindley side were just one spot above the relegation zone at the end of last season, with five league points keeping them at this level.
The final encounter on the opening day of the season sees Linthwaite Hall A face Milnsbridge B – both of those teams finished in mid-table after their encounters on the Pip Hill green last season. Both of those matches finished 6-2 to the Linthwaite side – will that result be repeated on Monday.
