Winter League
A preview of the 8 matches to be played in Divisions 3 & 4 of the Winter League on Monday
It is a busy week in the Winter League with Divisions 1 and 2 teams joining the fun with their opening round of fixtures on Wednesday. Before then we have Divisions 3 and 4 cranking up the competition with a full round of matches on Monday.
Some very interesting fixtures in this week's Division 3 programme with a first look at Lindley Lib B who could gate-crash the promotion race when they take on the leaders Marsh United who dropped their first points of the season last week. The Lindley outfit sit on the same points total as Hanging Heaton from the same two-match total played. The Lindley team will need to look to extend their unbeaten record to continue to be included in the promotion patter as the teams start to settle into a pecking order based on results.
Then the much-fancied Hanging Heaton team have to face Milnsbridge B who have only dropped two points from their first three fixtures and are level on points with the leaders with just a one-point aggregate difference for now.
Paddock I&C and Primrose Hill Lib currently occupy the bottom two slots in the table and will both be looking to claim their first wins of the season this week. The host team take on Rastrick who have won one and lost one of their opening two matches. Dalton have collected 12 points from their first three fixtures whilst only winning one of them but sit in third place. This shows how important it is to collect some points every week even in defeat. They will expect to claim the majority of the points on offer this week when meeting Paddock who are still looking for their first win of the season.
In Division 4 it is still early days with only one round of matches played and Thorpe Green C topping the first league table having had an opening day 8-0 victory and now face a Milnsbridge C team smarting from their opening day 2-6 defeat inflicted by the new team from New Mill B.
The New Mill side will be aiming to build on that momentum with a match against Lowerhouses B who are better than last week's loss to Netherton Con A would suggest. There was only five aggregate points between the two teams Almondbury BC A play their first match of the campaign this week and that is against Lindley Lib C who will aim to build on their week one win and put pressure on the leaders. Springwood B versus Netherton Con A completes Monday's line-up after which we will know a little more about each team's chances for the rest of the season.
