Mirfield League Week 1 Results Review

A look back at the opening week of matches in the Mirfield League and it is good to see that all the 60 teams that had fixtures managed to turn out full teams. I am sure that took a lot of organising with the uncertainty of some bowlers to return to the greens just yet. Well done.

Division 1 reigning Champions Thongsbridge A opened with a 9-3 away win at newly-promoted Lower Hopton B and nobody bettered that result. Two teams matched the 9-3 scoreline as Denby Grange A and Crossgates A both won their home matches.

The equal top individual performance of the day came from Dave Fox of Kirkheaton Con with a 21-2 home win as his team got the biggest Division 2 win of the day 11-1 over Alverthorpe. There were some big scores in this division with newly-promoted Pudsey B, Whitkirk and Woodlands Park all reaching double-figures.

The top team performance of the day came in Division 3 as Ossett C&AC white-washed Horbury WMC 12-0. The other three matches in this division all finished with 10-2 scorelines with Littlemoor B and Dodworth getting home wins whilst Rothwell travelled to Milnsbridge A to claim an away win.

The closest score of the day coming in the Division 4 drawn match at Spen Victoria as the B team shared the points 6-6 with Mirfield Old Bank with a matching 174-174 aggregate outcome. Thornhill C&BC head the week 1 league table after a 10-2 home win over Kirkheaton Con B.

In Division 5 Heckmondwike, Alverthorpe B, Morton House and The Harold Club B teams all had home wins with Marsh United claiming the division's only away triumph courtesy of a 4-point aggregate advantage and a 6-4 scoreline at Cowcliffe Liberal.

Rastrick completed a Division 6 10-0 white-wash over visitors Milnsbridge B and the equal top individual performance of the day came from Russell Gilbert of Grange Moor with a 21-2 result in their losing home fixture against Almondbury BC.

Just 3 matches in Division 7 this week with Royds Park getting the solitary home win and Shepley and Broad Oak B starting their 2021 campaigns with good away victories.
