A review of the Division 2 results of matches played on Wednesday 8 December.
With all the Division 1 matches planned for Wednesday being postponed early in the morning for good reason, the focus turned to Springwood where a full Division 2 programme was scheduled. The early decision was to delay any postponement until late morning by which time the conditions had eased somewhat and the green had recovered to the extent that it was definitely playable, so the fixtures went ahead. There was more rain during the matches being played but all were completed and the leaders, Meltham, completed their first half of the season fixtures with an 8th successive win to extend their lead at the top of the table to 14 points.
That win for Meltham over bottom of the table Paddock I&C went again according to the form book and included a 21-1 win for Eddie Haigh his 8th win of the season and puts him well ahead in the Division 2 Top Bowler Averages. There are trophies for the end of season winners of the three divisional averages titles with the recently anonymously donated Lily-Rose Rosebowl lined up for the Division 2 winner.
Springwood 'A' bounced back to form when registering three 21-18 scorelines in their match against Almondbury BC and an 8-0 win kept them in the hunt for the second promotion place. They now sit a little nearer to Lindley Lib who currently hold second place after beating Thorpe Green 'B' 6-2 this week. Next Wednesday's meeting of Lindley Lib and Springwood 'A' is likely to go a long way to resolving this mini-battle for supremacy for which the prize is a seat at the Division 1 table for next season.
Huddersfield Recreation Club 'A' came down to earth this week after their surprise 8-0 win last week over Jackson Bridge to go down 2-6 to Denby Dale who move up two places to 4th as a result. Denby Dale have either won their matches 6-2 or lost them 0-8 all season long and this week it was the turn of the winning 6-2 scoreline for the fourth time this season.
