Maximum New Mill set the pace

Veterans League

A review of the Veterans 6-Man League results from Monday 15 April

The two teams promoted into Division 2 for this season are setting a hot pace with the 2023 Division 3 Champions New Mill leading the way with a maximum 14 points from their opening two fixtures. The latest opponents on the wrong end of those were also-promoted Hemplow who had started the season in a positive winning manner before visiting New Mill on Monday.

Similar story at Marsh Lib where the home side collected a second 6-1 win this time at home over Lindley Lib B who had won their opening match last week. The 4th promoted side were Greenhead Park and they opened their Division 2 account with a 5-2 away win at Bradley & Colne who suffered a second disappointing result after being parachuted into Division 2. That was one of only two away wins in the division this week alongside Longwood who hit Elland C&BC for seven in a dryrub outcome.

Clayton West scored a second win with a 6-1 success over Milnsbridge BC B. There were first wins of the season for Holmfirth A 5-2 v Golcar Lib) and Almondbury Lib (5-2 v Linthwaite Hall). Linthwaite Hall are one of three teams still looking for their first wins of the season and they now occupy the bottom three positions.

There are four teams in Division 1 with 100% records at present each separted from the other in turn by a single point. They quartet only includes one of last season's top four which is Skel Windmill A who continued their winning start with a 4-3 away win over last season's runners-up Golcar C&BC with a 93-92 aggregate advantage proving key in the result.

The two promoted teams feature in that unbeaten foursome including Lindley Lib A dishing out a whitewash home win over Paddock I&C.

A 5-2 away win at Milnsbridge A for Slaithwaite kept their unbeaten record intact whilst a rejuvenated Brockholes A team claimed a 6-1 away win at 2022 Champions Shepley A. The reigning Champions are Marsh United and they put a disappointing opening defeat behid them to see off a Waterloo team by 6-1 to end their ideal start to their 6-Man League experience. There were 6-1 home wins for Crosland Moor and Thongsbridge A to kick-start their seasons over Netherton Con and Lockwood Con respectively.

It is an unrecognisable Brockholes B team from the side that finished second from bottom of Division 3 last season and now head the table as they made it 2/2 when beating Marsh United B with the 7-0 whitewash scoreline. It was the same score for the new team Greenhead Park B as they overwhelmed Shepley B. Skel Windmill B sit in second place despite losing 3-4 at home to Marsh Lib B and Meltham and Thongsbridge B were denied the opportunity to get their first win of the season when their match was postponed due to a waterlogged green at Meltham.

With four Division 3 teams now having Friday home fixtures the table is a little disjointed with the current model showing only 6 of the 13 teams having played two matches after the first two Mondays of the season.
