Lowerhouses win top 2 clash

Veterans League

The top of the table clash in Division 1 went as expected with Lowerhouses beating Longwood to stretch their lead at the top to 5 points and the threat of Longwood put back into sixth place in the table. Lowerhouses are a very strong team at home and the last time they lost at home was 18 July 2023, a run of 27 winning home matches. Rastrick, Elland WMC, Elland C&BC and Kirkheaton Con all won their Tuesday fixtures, the last three all away from home and all four teams overtook Longwood in the process.

Clayton West are still seeking their first win of the season and they had hoped that it would come this week at home to Elland C&BC. However after losing to Lowerhouses and Longwood they couldn't lift their game sufficiently to take the points and are now firmly entrenched at the foot of the table. Lindley Lib A collected their first winning points of the season beating Marsh United A 6-3 and move out of the drop zone.

Meltham A and Waterloo were the two teams relegated from Division 1 last season and both won again this week to keep them in the leading bunch of Division 2 promotion contenders. Meltham lead that group with an unbeaten three-match opening run, the latest being a 6-3 home win over Thongsbridge A. Waterloo continued their encouraging start to the season with a good 7-2 away win over promoted Hemplow A.

Lindley BC A retain second spot after a 6-3 home win over Almondbury BC A and Netherton Con A move up a place to third after an 8-1 home win over Shepley who remain fixed to the foot of the table. Milnsbridge A and Broad Oak A fought out a drawn aggregate game at 124-124 with Broad Oak taking the game count to run out 5-4 away winners but they remain in the relegation places for now.
