Review of the Tuesday results from Divisions 1&2 of the Veterans 10-Man League

Last week Lowerhouses doubled their lead at the top of the Division 1 table, this week they revert back to a 5-points lead after losing for the first time this season going down 3-6 at Marsh United A. The Marsh outfit have become a bit of a bogey side over the years to Lowerhouses who seemed to have addressed that shortfall last season but now it seems to have reappeared. That result coupled with Kirkheaton Con's 8-1 home win over Elland C&BC has reopened the title chase but the Elland team have ducked out of the reckoning for now after Tuesday's defeat dropping from 3rd to 6th position.
Historically the main challenge to Lowerhouses has come from Longwood who have finished as runners-up to the Champions for the last two years. That run of form appears to be faltering as the Longwood team lost for the third time this season with a 3-6 away defeat at Cowcliffe to drop into the bottom half of the table. They were important points for Cowcliffe who have struggled this season and remain in the relegation places despite that third win of the season. Last year Cowcliffe finished in the top four in the table along with Clayton West and both those teams find themselves in the bottom three this time around. However the Clayton West team seem to be turning their season around after a second successive win, this time away from home against Lockwood Con A who remain at the foot of the table.
Mid-table is very congested with four points separating the seven teams behind the top two. Four of those teams met each other with Golcar Lib A coming out as away victors over Lindley Lib A by 6-3 to snatch third place. There was a strightforward 6-3 home win for Elland WMC over Rastrick which resulted in them leapfrogging their opponents to go 7th.

The top three teams in Division 2 all lost their Tuesday matches this week but only Waterloo lost their top three place after going down 2-7 at home to Thongsbridge A where a crucial aggregate decider of 124-123 was key in collecting the points. That win enabled the Thongsbridge A team to push past Waterloo and claim third position.
Waterloo remain in contention sat in fourth position heading a trio of teams on the 30-point mark. Those other two teams being Denby Dale, who had a big 8-1 home win over Milnsbridge A, and Lindley BC A who were responsible for beating second-placed Meltham A by 6-3. But the day's biggest scalp was that of leaders Netherton Con A beaten 2-7 by Almondbury BC A who swapped mid-table positions with Almondbury Lib.
That swap coming about even though both teams enjoyed 7-2 wins but the Aggregate For balance changed to 716-712 from the previous week's 592-587 as the Lib team took over. It was the Lib team that condemned Hemplow A to another week in the relegation places still alongside Broad Oak A after they lost at Shepley 3-6.
