Winter League
A review of the Division 1 & 2 fixtures played on Wednesday 30 November
Thorpe Green 'A' lost for the first time this season and that cost them the leader's spot in the Division 1 title race. Reigning Champions, Lower Hopton, showed their mettle with a 6-2 win over a major rival who are only 2 points behind them after that result.
Lower Hopton have lost twice this season so far but the three teams immediately behind them have all lost only once and that includes third-placed Meltham who continue to thrive at this level after their promotion at the end of last season. They were held to a 4-4 draw, their 3rd drawn match this season, by Clayton West and needed the 52-51 aggregate win to share the points.
New Millers remain well in contention, only 4 points off the summit with a match in hand over all their main rivals. This week they saw off Lindley Lib 'A' 6-2 and will hopefully catch up with their fixtures next Wednesday with a rearranged match against Lindley BC 'A'.
Lindley BC 'A' are still looking for their first win of the season with a 2-6 defeat against Kirkheaton Con their latest setback to avoiding swapping places with their B team who continue to set the pace at the top of Division 2. This week the 'B' team clocked up their 6th successive victory, this time a 6-2 win over Milnsbridge 'A', and they extend the only unbeaten record by any team in the League. That puts them 8 points ahead of Springwood 'A' who themselves had a good win when inflicting a third consecutive defeat on Lockwood Con which have all been by the same 6-2 scoreline.
That result enabled Lowerhouses 'A' to move up to 3rd place after beating Denby Dale by the same 6-2 scoreline. In fact all four Division 2 matches ended with the same scoreline with Jackson Bridge completing that sequence when condemning Rastrick to a delay in claiming their first win of the season and both teams remain in serious trouble in the relegation places.
