Lower Hopton go clear at top

Winter League

Report on Division 1 matches played on Wednesday 20 October

A second 8-0 whitewash win for Lower Hopton takes them to the top of the early Division 1 table but the manner of the win will send shock waves through the other contenders. Only conceding 23 points in the three games this week beat their own League record set the previous week. The New Millers went into this match with a big win behind them and this defeat is a setback to their own ambitions but they are unlikely to have a bigger test all season.

Lower Hopton fielded the same four bowlers as the previous week and these four now sit 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th in the Singles/Pairs combined averages table. There is a trophy for the end-of-season top performer so this is in danger of becoming an internal affair. Holding them back at present is Kirkheaton Con's 'Crafty' Cooper who has won his first 3 Singles matches and currently heads that table. Positions are worked out by number of 'Matches Won', then by 'Averages' and finally by 'Aggregate For'

Whilst the four Division 2 matches at Springwood were being abandoned due to a waterlogged green the elements tried their best but couldn't halt the Milnsbridge contingent although it was touch and go at one stage.

Lindley BC 'A' move into second place displacing Milnsbridge 'A' from the top spot after beating them 6-2 and they drop to fifth as a result. Two teams that played out a 3-3 draw at Springwood last season met on the Milnsbridge lawn this week with Kirkheaton Con coming out on top this time beating Clayton West 6-2.

Thorpe Green 'A' also had a good win overcoming Lowerhouses 'A' 6-2 who fielded a completely different quartet to the side that lost to Lower Hopton the previous week. Despite that win for Thorpe Green they drop one place into third and are grouped with two other teams on 14 points.
