Ladies Works League: Review & Preview

Ladies Works League

Review of results for matches played 5-9 July Preview of matches to be played 12-16 July

Brook Hansen 'A' bounced back to winning form after losing their 100% Division 1 record the previous week to Champions Atkinson Butchers with an away win at Strait Kutz Hairdressers. That was an improvement in scores on the opening day rematch when there was only 1 point between the teams but it appears that Brook Hansen 'A' have made the more progress this season with a 152-120 away win this time around. That leaves them with a Won-6 Lost-1 record but that only gets them third place in the league table behind Atkinson Butchers whose result at PEG Perego on Friday is still to be posted, and Alicia Dawn Photography who have a 31-point aggregate lead over them. Huddersfield Recreation Club took 3 of the 8 games in their home tie with Alicia Dawn Photography but that still left them with a 29-point deficit and they have to settle for 4th spot.

Pearce Displays played two Division 2 matches this week and won one and lost one. The win came at home against Brook Hansen 'B' but they would be disappointed not to be the team to halt the unbeaten record of Holmes Dresser when narrowly going down 128-131. That was on top of a one-point defeat (130-131) to the same opponents on the opening day of the season. Even with that unbeaten record Holmes Dresser only sit third in the table after playing the same number of matches as D Haigh & Co and Paul Kitchens with 55 points still to catch up to place themselves in contention for the title however promotion remains a very attainable target with only an 8-point gap to second-placed Paul's Kitchens although they do have one result still to be added to Bowlsnet.

Preview of matches to be played 12-16 July

It is a top-two confrontation in Division 1 on Friday as Alicia Dawn make one more attempt to put a spanner in the works of the well-oiled machine that is the Atkinson Butchers drive to a second consecutive title. There is nothing more they would crave than to halt the season-long winning run that would cement the Butchers arrival as the prolonged successors to Alicia Dawn's previous dominance at this level. There are two more Division 1 fixtures this week with Huddersfield Recreation Club and Strait Kutz Hairdressers matched up and locked in mid-table separated only by 20-points after the same number of matches. The Club has home advantage and will be keen to get revenge for a 129-162 defeat earlier in the season and the least they will expect is an extension to that 20-point gap. Elsewhere Brook Hansen 'A' will be keen to build up a healthy points balance and completing the double when hosting Bolster Moor Farmshop visit this week.

The Holmes Dresser v D Haigh & Co Division 2 encounters have been arranged for the last two matches of the season and they are likely to determine the title and promotion outcomes for both teams but before then both teams will be looking to insure a culmination of points in the bank to counter any setbacks. That makes the two fixtures this week doubly important with leaders D Haigh & Co having home advantage over Colne Valley Garden Centre and Holmes Dresser visiting Brook Hansen 'B'. Paul's Kitchens currently sit between these two hopefuls and will have their own agenda but then again so will Pearce Displays who have home fixtures with both D Haigh & Co and Paul's Kitchens still to come so could become real party-poopers and may yet force their way into the promotion bun-fight.
