Key fixtures in Section 4 this week

League News

Veterans 10-Man League

In a week where the top two sections play two rounds of fixtures we first of all turn to Section 4 for the key confrontation of the week when the top two teams go head-to-head. The B teams from Netherton Con and Lindley BC have both won their two opening matches, one point separates them and they have opened up a 3-point gap over the rest of the challengers. In addition their bowlers dominate the Averages tables with 5 of the top 6 in the Pairs coming from these two clubs. Looks like a good game coming up with top spot beckoning for the winners and with the Netherton team having home advantage they will be the favourites. There are 3 other 100% records in this section and two of those are thrown together when Ravensknowle Park host Denby Dale. The Park side have only played one match so probably still need to prove themselves but home advantage could be a significant factor here. The other 100% record belongs to 3rd placed Huddersfield Recreation Club and they entertain 5th placed Primrose Hill Lib who will be keen to narrow the gap on the top 4 before it becomes much wider. The remaining two fixtures at this level involve 4 'B' teams that haven't managed a win between them so far so that is about to change.

The top four in Section 1 all have home games this week with Elland C&BC 'A' looking to widen their 4-point lead when 5th placed Golcar Lib 'A' come to visit. Champions Lockwood Con 'A' will be keen to keep up with the pace that the leaders are setting before they play their catch-up fixture next week, meanwhile they have to go to promoted Crosland Moor who are still looking to prove themselves at this level after a yo-yo few seasons. The bottom 3 teams don't have a win between them yet and will do well to alter that as they all have away fixtures this week.

The top three teams in Section 2 are separated by a single point and all play at home this week with leaders Lindley BC 'A' looking for a repeat of their opening day whitewash 9-0 win but Almondbury BC 'A' may prove to be a more resilient opponent. Broad Oak host 7th placed Kirkheaton C&BC 'A' and Bradley & Colne have New Mill 'A' as visitors to complete the top of the table picture. Two stalwart and long-standing Section 2 teams find themselves in the bottom 3 after two rounds of games and they will both be keen to change that when Shepley host Hemplow 'A' this week.

One point separates the top four in Section 3 and they all avoid each other in this week's set of fixtures. Second-placed Skel Windmill look to have the hardest task away at 5th placed Brockholes who will be looking to extend their own unbeaten start to the season. Slaithwaite in 6th place have also won both their opening matches and will expect to continue that run when Marsh United 'B' come to visit. Things don't look good for Outlane who have lost both their matches to date and sit at the foot of the table with unbeaten Meltham 'B' as their visitors this week.

The top two in Section 5 hold the section's only unbeaten records and leaders Kirkheaton C&BC 'B' will hope to keep that run going when they welcome Holmfirth 'B' to their green whilst 2nd-placed Huddersfield Recreation Club look to have a more difficult task away at New Mill 'B'. The two bottom teams are both looking for their first wins of the season and both have away matches this week so may have to settle for those runs continuing a little longer.

There is a full list of fixtures on Friday this week in Sections 1 and 2 (see below) and they include Section 1 leaders Elland C&BC 'A' going to 3rd placed Cowcliffe whilst Lindley Lib 'A' will be hoping that the refurbishment work at their club is completed in time to enable them to play their first home game of the season with Rastrick lined up as visitors. Two points separate the top 5 teams in Section 2 and they all avoid each other in the Friday fixtures as placings become more settled no doubt as the season starts to pan out. Enjoy your bowling gentlemen.
