A double-header with a review of the Division 5 & 6 extra fixtures played yesterday and also a look ahead at the matches lined up for tomorrow Thursday 14 December
A busy week of Divisions 5 and 6 matches with both having two full rounds of fixtures as we first look back to yesterday's results which saw Jackson Bridge's recovery from an awful start to their Division 5 season completed with a fifth successive win to go top of the table. That lead is due to a 9-points better 'Aggregate For' total (382-373) over Brockholes B in a very congested top half of the table.
With only 6 points separating the top six teams there is clearly much still to happen but all six teams will fancy their chances of a title or promotion place. The latest win for Jackson Bridge was over a Netherton Con B team still looking for its first win of the season so inevitably they are currently sat in bottom place at least 20 points short of a safety target.
Brockholes B had a good 6-2 win over Slaithwaite to overtake their opponents and are level top on points and a whitewash 8-0 win for Springwood C over Mirfield A kept them well in contention. Almondbury BC B are slowly recovering form and a 6-2 win over Huddersfield Recreation Club made it two on the bounce for them/
Long time leaders Outlane were without a match on Tuesday and with only one win in their last four matches they are slipping down the table as are Slaithwaite with one win in five. Both stay in the top six for now and both are capable of better results than has been the case recently with opportunities on Thursday to address that situation.
Slaithwaite meet bottom of the table Netherton Con B whilst Outlane take on Brockholes B who have only been beaten once all season and that was to the new leaders. Almondbury BC B's recovery ambitions will be tested when meeting third-placed Springwood C who are unbeaten since the opening day of the season.
Turning now to the Division 6 results from Tuesday as Linthwaite Hall confirmed their superiority at the top by seeing off their closest rivals New Mill C by 6-2 and creating an 8-point cushion to start the second half of the season. That result opened up the door for Lockwood Con B and the Rugby Club to close in on the second promotion place but the Lockwood Con team failed to rise to the occasion when surprisingly going down 2-6 to Kirkheaton Con B who stay second from bottom despite that result.
The Rugby Club continue their good form, only one defeat in their last five, beating bottom-of-the-table Mirfield by 8-0 and that sees them and Lockwood Con B locked together on 44 points just two points behind New Mill C. Broad Oak had a welcome 3rd win in their last four fixtures this time by 6-2 over Golcar C&BC, without a win in their last four, and now sees the two teams on the same points totals although the Golcar side have played a match more than their opponents.
A full fixture programme on Thursday with the 2nd and 3rd placed teams confronting each other in the race for the second promotion place. Both teams lost their last matches so the one with the quicker recovery mindset can profit from this clash. Linthwaite will expect to at least retain their top-of-the-table points advantage when meeting Broad Oak this week.
The Rugby Club are the division's form team, unbeaten in their last three, and they will fancy their chances of extending that run when taking on Golcar C&BC this Thursday. Kirkheaton Con B versus Cowcliffe B completes the latest round of fixtures in a busy week of Division 6 action.
