Report on Finals Day 2025 in the Crosland Moor Open '64' from Mark Atkinson
Crosland Moor Open '64' 2025
The Final - 29th August 2025

Another year in the books at Crosland Moor and Jack Wareing stepped up to break the Dodworth curse and secure his maiden win in the event. Jack was in impressive form all evening as he came through 3 very tight games and showed his bottle under pressure when it was needed.
First up was David Worthington – Worthy set off quickly using what had become his trademark left handed loop of the rink edge to fly into a 6 nil lead, but Jack slowly clawed his way back into the game before getting out 21-19. In the semis, Jack had the toughest of games with many people’s tip for the tournament Ryan Clark, but it was Jack who prevailed by the same margin 21-19.
So into the final and an encounter with previous winner and Crosland Moor specialist Ashley Daykin. Jack showed no real signs of nerves as he never let Ash get away, constantly wrestling back the initiative to keep in the game. At 20-17 to Ash, Dasher led a good un on a tough mark towards the kitchen, but Jack found two real uns to give himself a chance at 19-20. Leading out Jack went to a mark he’d used earlier in the tournament to great effect, playing a looping round pegger to the wall which plays a lot longer than it looks, catching Ash short twice to pinch the game with another 2 and scoop the £600 first prize.
So huge congratulations to Jack, commiserations to Ash and well done to all for another successful year of the event. I like to think we’re doing something right, as we seem (somehow) to have managed to buck the trend of having a full comp and very few dropouts through the whole event. My list of reserves will be thinking I’ve fallen out with them! Thanks again to our amazing sponsors Huddersfield Bearing and Debriar – you guys make things easy for me. See you all again next year UTM.
