Veterans League
The season doesn't get any better for the Huddersfield Veterans Inter-District League team. Now languishing in the bottom half of the Yorkshire League table with no chance of challenging for the title, the one remaining opening for glory this year was extinguished last Friday when our team was eliminated from the Hickson Trophy competition. After comfortably beating bottom-of-the-table Wakefield 234-191, hopes were raised but there followed a 209-228 defeat to the Sheffield team after only winning 3 of the 12 games on the day, which saw them eliminated.
West Riding are hosting the event this year, which is a straight knock-out format and the opening two rounds were staged last Friday. The Semi-Finals and Final are being held at Thornhill Bowling Club today (10 July) with a 10.30am start time. Leeds, as the reigning Champions, have a free passage through to Finals Day and they will be joined by Sheffield, West Riding and Bradford as the other Semi-Finalists.
All the scores from last Friday were:
Preliminary Round Sheffield 222 East Coast 204, Huddersfield 234 Wakefield 191, West Riding 234 Harrogate 201, Bradford 217 Halifax 201, Barnsley 233 Castleford 166.
Quarter-finals Aire & Wharfe 189 -220 West Riding, Huddersfield 209 -228 Sheffield, Bradford 217-183 Barnsley
