Bill Blackburn's commentary ....
The bookies almost got it right for the final of the Lindley Bowling Club £3200 competition where Gareth Coates beat Nicky White 21-17 in the final. Rank outsider, White had earlier beaten favourite Stuart King in the semis 21-16. In an exciting final Coates led 19-15 and had two bowls either side of the jack.on a corner-to-corner mark when White produced a wonder wood which ran the jack through to his own back bowl to register two making the score 19-17.
However, Coates registered two at the next end to pick up the £1000 first prize and
the trophy. Coates also had a half share in the £100 prize for the highest break on the night, the other £50 went to Nathan Haigh who recovered from being behind 3-13 against Mirfield Merit winner Steve Gilroy, to win 21-15
