Four 7-0 whitewash wins this week

Veterans League

Review of the Monday results in the Veterans 6-Man League

The top three Division 1 teams all duly won their home fixtures this week as expected although only the leaders, Clayton West A, ran up a totally satisfactory 7-0 win over Shepley A. That enabled them to stretch their lead at the top to four points over Marsh United A (5-2 winners over Lindley Lib A) and to eight points ahead of a Broad Oak A side that beat Netherton Con A by the same 5-2 scoreline.

The bottom two teams also had home fixtures this week with Thongsbridge A stacking up a first win of the season beating Waterloo 4-3 after an 81-78 aggregate win swayed the points their way. With the five teams in the table immediately above them in the table all losing it was a good day for the bottom team to come good. That was a third consecutive defeat for the Waterloo team and with a fixture against the leaders coming up next things don't get any easier for the team that finished as the Division 1 runners-up to Clayton West A last season.

The top-of-the-table clash in Division 2 went the way of New Mill A with an emphatic away win at Holmfirth A to overtake the leaders and take the top spot away from them. In fact that 6-1 away win also allowed Lockwood Con (6-1 home winners over Golcar Lib A) to move above the deposed leaders shunting them down to third place.

It gets worse as the jackals are circling the wounded leaders as 5-2 home wins for Brockholes A (over their club's own B team) and Marsh Lib A also edged both teams even closer to the promotion battle and with an away match at Marsh Lib A next on their fixture programme things are looking very bleak for the Holmfirth team.

The Brockholes B team's loss to their own A team sent them to the foot of the table as Longwood recorded a 2nd win of the season, this time 5-2 at home to Milnsbridge B, to lift them out of the bottom spot and now only one point behind the two teams, Paddock I&C and Milnsbridge B, immediately above them in the table.

There was no change in the pecking order in Division 3 as Hemplow A and Thongsbridge B extend their lead, in part thanks to Broad Oak B winning 5-2 away at third-placed Crosland Moor, who are now 7 points adrift of the top two. The 7-0 away win for Thongsbridge B at Primrose Hill Lib adds to that short list of teams that have recorded 7-0 whitewash away wins this season. It also sent the Primrose Hill Lib team down into bottom place.

A very commendable 3-4 away defeat for the previous bottom-of-the-table occupiers, Elland C&BC, at Hemplow A was enough to lift them off the foot of the table and only one point away from lifting themselves out of the relegation places. Greenhead Park are going in the opposite direction after a 0-7 thrashing at Golcar Lib B but things remain tight in the drop zone of 5 teams only separated by 4 points at present.

We knew that Thongsbridge C team were going to lose top spot in the Division 4 table this week as they had no fixture but we never expected them to drop down to fifth place with even the one losing team in the top five overtaking them. The only losers were Meltham who went down 2-5 at Netherton Con B but still passed the previous leaders but with only 5 points between the top 5 teams anything can happen.

New Mill B are the new leaders, stepping up one place after a 5-2 home win over Skel Windmill B. A 6-1 win for Brockholes C over their clubmates of their D team saw them move 5 points ahead of the second from bottom place. That still left Shepley B in 11th place after they lost 1-6 at home to Holmfirth B who moved up two places to 7th.
