Division 4 Preview

Let's start with looking at last year's end-of-season Division 4 table and the 2026-27 line-up.

The Pts Column shows the number of points won last season

Netherton Con A have played in Division 4 every season since they first joined the Winter League in 2022 and have finished one place outside of the promotion places for the last two years. Although staying in the same division for all four years they have actually played on three different greens (Netherton Con, Lindley Lib and Primrose Hill Lib) over that period. With yet another new host green lined up for this year in Thorpe Green, is this to be their year? Linthwaite Hall A have finished just two points behind the Netherton Con in the last two seasons and seem to have equal claims on a promotion-place finish as anyone.

Lindley Lib are well represented in the higher Divisions with three teams in the top four Divisions with their C team representing the club in Division 4 after promotion the previous season. If they can build on that experience then they could become a force at the top end of the table. Milnsbridge B have never offered any serious threat to win promotion out of Division 4 in recent seasons and are more likely to finish in the bottom half rather than at the promotion end once again this season.

The two promoted teams could both offer a serious threat to any team harbouring designs on the promotion places as they appear to be two teams on the upward route. Rastrick A leaping six divisions from Division 10 after a solid return following a lack of communication within their club saw their 2024-25 Division 4 promotion-winning team drop out of the League altogther only to be re-entered late in the day when only a Division 10 trial place was available to them. So they are back to their previous level now and it would be no surprise to see them return to a promotion-winning place once again.

Mirfield A have been promoted in each of the last two seasons, both times via the second promotion place, always finding one better team depriving them of the Champions title. Neither of those two better teams (Almondbury BC B and Mirfield Old Bank) are in the Division 4 starting stalls leaving the path clear for them to have a clear run to the top slot.

Springwood A have flirted with relegation in recent seasons and could have played the 'Avoid Relegation' card open to host clubs after finishing in the Division 3 drop zone last season. They decided against that way out and instead opted for an opportunity to play teams of a lower level with a chance of winning more matches than they would lose. Will that approach be rewarded with a first-ever promotion for a founder member of the League team? Accompanying the Springwood team through the Division 3 relegation trapdoor were Lindley BC B. Since joining the League in 2021 the Lindley BC B team have enjoyed two promotions and last year a first relegation which finds them in Division 4 this term. They were well adrift being some 19 points from safety and may have further to drop yet.
