Division 6 Preview

Let's start with looking at last year's end-of-season Division 6 table and the 2026-27 line-up.

The Pts Column shows the number of points won last season

Dalton have been relegated in each of the last three seasons and they would be thankful to avoid such an experience once again and maybe they have found their level in Division 6 this coming season. They are more likely to be found in the bottom half of the table rather than pushing for promotion; whether they really are relegation certainties again is passed on to you to decide. In contrast the team coming down with them, Milnsbridge C, relegation was a new experience for them after 4 seasons in the League. You could build a case for an immediate return to forgive them one bad season in four.

The two teams coming up to join the Division 6 hopefuls are Huddersfield RUBC and Kirkheaton Con B. Both teams have played on this green in the Winter League for the last three seasons and it is better known to the homesters of the Rugby Club who will be looking for another trophy for the cabinet. Whether they then should play the Decline Promotion card does not get included in this Forecast Game thinking as we will just be adding up all the points won over the season. The Kirkheaton B side are maturing bowlers who will expect to be in the promotion race but expectations are not always realised are they?

That leaves the four teams that finished mid-table last term. Leading the way is the Springwood C team but you need to be aware that a shake-up of players will see a number of last season's relegated Springwood B team reappearing in the C team this season. On paper that means they will not be as strong as they were last year when they finished third so a promotion push may be beyond them.

There has been an influx of new bowlers for the Outlane teams this year with at least four ex-Thorpe Green C team members who played in Division 3 last season joining the Outlane squads although they will mainly boost the calibre of B team bowlers. However the knock-on effect may benefit the Outlane A team. As they finished 4th last season and, having just dismissed the chances of the third-place-finishing Springwood B team, it opens up an opportunity for a first-ever promotion in four seasons for the Outlane side.

After promotion for Hanging Heaton B in their first season in the League in 2024-25 they consolidated their position in Division 6 last term with a 6th place finish and they may have to be satisfied with further consolidation this time but their form did improve as the season progressed last year after a four-match losing run to open their season. Almondbury BC A managed to avoid a second successive relegation last season and that may be their only target again this year.

If there are sufficient entries in the forcasting game I will put them into a table with periodical publications on the HuddWeb website. You get 3 points if your top selection is top of the Division table: 1 point if they are in 2nd place. Same for your selected bottom-of-the-table team: 3 points if your selection is in the bottom place and 1 point if they are 2nd to bottom. Just for fun this year but maybe we will attract some sponsorship to dish out some prizes next year. Up to you if you want to play.
