Exhausted Yorkshire Ladies very happy

Bowling News

Yorkshire Ladies won the 2025 BCGBA Veterans County Championship in Shrewsbury on Tuesday 24 June. This one-day competition for 8-team members is a challenge at the best of times but this week proved to be a physical challenge with almost 12 hours of bowling sandwiched between the long journeys to Shropshire and back.

A team of 9 bowlers who left Huddersfield at 06:00am for a 9:30am start, arrived home tired but happy at 1:30am.

The team led by Linda Gledhill who won all 5 matches ( 15-12, 15-5, 15-8, 15-8 & 15-5) as did Julie Mallinson (15-4, 15-1, 15-7, 15-9 & 15-1) on the 2 greens at Meole Brace BC in Shrewsbury.

Yorkshire had to wait 2 hours after winning their group to play the semi final on Meole Brace No 1 then the final on No 2 green as the venue for Group D (Hanwood BC) was too small for 5 jacks on the green at once.

Well done to the 4 intrepid drivers who had to endure roadworks and diversions on the way home.

The format for the 16 teams entered started with four groups of four teams playing each other and the top team in each group progressing to the semi-final knock-out stage. The Yorkshire team topped Group C by winning all three of their matches and went on to meet the Group D winners representing South Yorkshire. Winning that by 112-91 to go on to win the Final against Greater Manchester by an emphatic 113-81 aggregate scoreline. All the match details and tables are below.
