Hot favourite for the Elland WMC Classic was Callum Wraight from Shrewsbury but he fell at the semi-final stage on a rain-soaked Elland WMC green beaten by Bury bowler Mitch Toth. The climax of the match coming at the last end with the scores 20-across and Mitch holding two with Callum having the last wood in his hand.
The scene was set for one of Callum's rampaging strikes and he didn't disappoint duly planting his last wood right amongst, and shifting all the three other woods and the jack. No speed was spared as three woods went into the gutter but crucially the one remaining one belonged to Mitch Toth who duly collected the point and progressed to the final. Mitch a 33/1 opening shot for that title performed heroics to stay in the contest under enormous pressure. That must have taken a lot out of the victor as he was always behind in the final to Littlemoor bowler Stuart King who eventually ran out a comfortable 21-10 winner with his opening price of 6/1 great value. Wonderful entertainment.
Conditions throughout Finals Day were very different to what bowlers had become accustomed to over the last few weeks and made demands on the bowlers they haven't experienced for a while. It was not only Shrewsbury that was represented in the final stage of the competition as bowlers from Birmingham, Sheffield, Bury, Burnley, West Bromich and Chorley also featured along with some Yorkshire bowlers in the competition sponsored by Heineken.
