Winter League

Preview of Thursday fixtures in Divisions 6 & 7 at RUBC and Netherton Con

DIVISION 6 PREVIEW

FIRST impressions of Division 6 is that it is going to be a tight competition following two drawn games in the first week. The outstanding result a week ago was Dalton’s 8-0 win over Springwood C and they will look to carry that form into their encounter against Milnsbridge C on the Huddersfield rugby union bowling club’s green on Thursday.

Kirkheaton Con B were the only other team to register a win on the first week of the competition and they will be in action against Hanging Heaton B this week. The Dewsbury side sit just one place below the Con club and head the four clubs who drew their matches last week. That’s because the clubs’ level on points are then ranked by the points that they have scored with Hanging Heaton B scoring 53 points in their drawn match.

Two of the teams who featured in those drawn matches last week were Almondbury BC A and Huddersfield RUBC with those two teams meeting in the second round of matches.

The final encounter this week sees the two clubs who lost last week meeting each other. Outlane A picked up two points in their defeat a week ago whilst Springwood C were pointless.

DIVISION 7 PREVIEW

ACTION in Division 7 of the Winter League gets underway on Thursday with the “match of the day” looking to be between Holmfirth A who finished third in Division 7 last season, just missing out on promotion after finishing level on points with Kirkheaton Con B. The Con have already started positively following their promotion so that may be a sign that Holmfirth could be fancied against a Netherton Con B side relegated last season.

The other relegated side are Springwood B. they finished one place above the Netherton Con side but had gathered eight more league points so they will fancy their chances against Hemplow A. The latter finished champions of Division 8 last term so may fancy their chances themselves!

The other new team in the division is Thongsbridge who have moved up three levels after impressing in Division 10 last term. They will have to judge their level starting with an encounter against an Huddersfield Rec Club who finished in mid-table last year.

Lockwood Con B were two places below Marsh Lib A in the final table of the 2025-26 table but they were also separated by 24 league points. They had two contrasting results last season with their first encounter ending as a drawn match before the Lib club outwitted their Con club rivals 8-0 later in the season.
