Division 3 top two both lose

Winter League

Review of the Division 3&5 results from Wednesday 21 January

The top two teams in Division 3 lost to the 3rd and 4th placed teams to open up the promotion race. That means it is now only one win the last five matches for the Slaithwaite team as they are still 2nd but 4 points behind the leaders. Almondbury BC B continue to impress after a three-division promotion last term and are still top of the table despite a first defeat in five after losing 2-6 to Lindley Lib B.

Things are starting to look very ominous for Lindley BC B who lost 0-8 to Lockwood Con A and need to win next time out or they will be relegated. That win took the Lockwood Con A team nearer to safety after a third straight win (two of them by 8-0) whilst Springwood A completed a unique run of three drawn results. Only two matches left to play so building up to a good climax at both ends of the table.

Mirfield Old Bank are in prime position to claim the Division 5 title after recording a fourth 8-0 whitewash win this season with bottom of the table, Kirkheaton C&BC A on the wrong end of that scoreline. However their final four fixtures are against the four teams immediately below them in the table whereas Mirfield A have two bottom four teams among their final fixtures. That win pushed the new boys 4 points clear of their neighbours from Mirfield A who saw off the threat from Jackson Bridge 6-2 to confirm their status as the main contender for the 2nd promotion place and possibly the title as well.

Kirkheaton C&BC A look doomed to relegation after losing 0-8 to the Old Bank team on Wednesday which was a 6th consecutive defeat and they are now 8 points off avoiding the drop. Paddock I&C have upped their game in recent weeks to move away from the drop zone after being unbeaten in their last 5 matches leaving Thorpe Green B and Dalton to sort out the second relegation place between them. A 4-4 draw this week between Thorpe Green B and Paddock was of more benefit to the Paddock team than their opponents who continue to sit in a relegation place at present.
