Division 3 title race is wide open

Winter League

The Thorpe Green 'C' team currently lead the Division 3 title race, they don't have a match this week but will still top the table after this round of fixtures. Their 10-point lead guarantees that but can they expect to see the Lindley BC 'B' side close that gap as they take on Milnsbridge 'B' this Monday. Three facts need to be factored into the thinking about that fixture, the first being that the Lindley side surprisingly lost to Brockholes last week after winning 4 of their previous 5 matches 8-0. Just a blip or a turning point in their season?

The second fact to take into consideration is the earlier season meeting of these two teams resulted in a 6-2 win for Milnsbridge. Then further examination reveals that most of their wins this season have come against teams higher in the league than them with Brockholes, Springwood 'B' and Rastrick 'B' all on the receiving end of the Milnsbridge team's superiority on the day.

Rastrick 'B' continue to struggle after only being beaten once in their first six matches they haven't won any of their latest five and wont relish the match against Brockholes who will be looking to complete a league double over their opponents. Discount the Brockholes team from the promotion race at your peril as they look to have the more straightforward run in to the end of the season. They don't have to meet either of the two teams above them whilst those top two meet each other in February for what could be a title and promotion decider.

Looking at the other end of the Division 3 table to note that the bottom four teams all play each other this coming week. Dalton are on a run of 5 matches unbeaten and exactly the wrong time to have a week off last Monday but will be aiming to extend that record against bottom of the table Springwood 'B' this week. A commendable 4-4 draw with Milnsbridge 'B' last week will give Springwood heart for the remaining fixtures and the last match of the season fixture against the Recreation Club increasingly looks like a deciding moment in the Division 3 season.

Before then the Recreation Club take on a Lowerhouses 'B' side who are 8 points ahead of them in the table and their nearest lever to higher things. Huddersfield Recreation Club are on a bit of a roll having won 2 of their last 3 matches with a first 8-0 win of the season on their record from last week. This week may be Lowerhouses's best chance of claiming points before the end of the season as three of their remaining matches are against the top three teams in the league which looms ever closer.

All four matches commence at 12noon at Thorpe Green which has become a bit of a meeting point for spectators keen to follow their sport from the sidelines whilst enjoying a hot drink and refreshments and banter and bowling gossip with like-minded individuals.
