Review of the Veterans 10-Man League Divisions 1&2 results from Tuesday 14 July

The halfway point of the 10-Man League season has been reached and things could hardly be any tighter in the Division 1 bottom half of the table. Only seven points separate the bottom eight teams and one good win can turn the fortunes of any of the teams as shown this week. At the start of the week Marsh United A and Lockwood Con A occupied the two relegation places. Both had big 8-1 home wins and they now find themselves in 6th and 7th positions. The two teams on the wrong end of those scorelines, Longwood and Kirkheaton Con A, now take up residence in bottom two positions. However both have played one match less than anyone else so that isn't the end of the story.
At the other end of the table Rastrick and Clayton West were the two teams closest to the runaway leaders Lowerhouses. They played each other this week and Clayton West continued their recovery clocking up a 6th win in their last 7 matches winning 5-4 away at Rastrick but still drop a place to 4th. Their next four fixtures mirror their start to the season as they take on the four teams who all beat them to start their season. Elland WMC continue to impress in their first season in the top level and a 6-3 away win at Cowcliffe sees them in third place.
Lindley Lib A won for the first time in their last four fixtures with a 119-119 drawn aggregate score giving them the edge away to Elland C&BC to record a 5-4 away win. Golcar Lib A did well to take four points away from their match at the leaders, Lowerhouses, but still widened their lead to 19 points on their seemingly relentless journey to a third consecutive title.

The top two teams in Division 2 both lost their Tuesday fixtures this week to shake up the title and promotion races. Meltham, retain their lead at the top despite losing 3-6 at Netherton Con A who step up one place to second as a result. Lindley Lib A conceded second place after losing 2-7 away to relegation-threatened Broad Oak A, who are not showing relegation form any longer, clocking up their third win in their last four matches.
The season continues to be a struggle for Hemplow A who are well adrift at the foot of the table losing their last 10 matches, the latest being a 1-8 drubbing away to Milnsbridge A. The fate of one of the teams may already be booked but who will go down with the Hemplow side? Broad Oak A appear to be on the up, Milnsbridge collect eight points leaving Almondbury Lib and Shepley looking over their shoulders with some justified concern. The Shepley side did collect an important 6-3 home win over Almondbury BC A to move up one place to 9th swapping places with Almondbury Lib who lost 4-5 away to Thongsbridge A.
Denby Dale were happy to be back on their home green this week when extending their 100% home win record with a 6-3 win over Waterloo who have had one win in their last seven matches.
