Division 1 title race could end this week

Winter League Preview of the Division 1 fixtures for Wednesday 4 February

There may be three fixtures to go before we reach the end of the Division 1 season but that may be irrelevant after this week's top of the table meeting. Thorpe Green A and Lower Hopton have both won the Division 1 title twice before. Both would love to be the first to make that a hat-trick of titles as they sit one and two in the table. This Wednesday's meeting of the two contenders could sort everything out. The Thorpe Green team hold a 9-point lead at present with three rounds of fixtures still to be played. Lower Hopton put the only blemish on Thorpe Green's playing record when the teams met earlier in the season and they will need to at least repeat that 6-2 scoreline if they are to continue to harbour hopes of that Championship hat-trick.

If Golcar Lib don't win their match against fourth from bottom Lindley BC B by 8-0 they will be relegated. That is a big ask as they lost the earlier meeting of the teams by 0-8 in December. Kirkheaton Con A are similarly single-focused when they take on New Mill A who are in safety range and therefore a must-win match. With a final day encounter against Thorpe Green also lined-up the Yetton boys are struggling to find a path to safety before the season ends with a first-ever relegation looking more and more likely.
