A review of the Division 3 league matches played on Monday 20 December
Dalton extended their unbeaten Division 3 run to 5 matches with a first 8-0 win of the season when beating Huddersfield Recreation Club 'B' this week. But that doesn't tell half of the story. The two teams opened with a 105-minute pairs marathon with Dalton eventually edging it 21-20. Although this was a long game it still fell short of the 120-minute record set earlier this season when Dalton were again involved with the same pairing of David Ray and Phil Goodge when they missed out that time 20-21 to Brockholes. More straightforward singles wins for Dalton saw them safely home albeit later than usual.

Two long singles games for leaders Thorpe Green 'C' and third-placed Brockholes included a grand fight back by Mike Howlett from 7-19 to eventually go down 15-21 to Charlie Littlewood of the host club. That enabled the pairs to take to the green which saw home bowler Dave McClean win for the 9th successive game and continue to lead the Division 3 averages.
That win kept the Thorpe Green 'C' team on top of the table although Lindley BC 'B' closed the gap on them to 4 points with an 8-0 win over bottom team Springwood 'B'. Rastrick 'B' after leading the table earlier in the season have gone off the boil and a fourth successive match without a win resulted from their 2-6 defeat to Lowerhouses 'B' this week.
