Winter League A preview of the Divisions 1 & 2 fixture programme for Wednesday 11 January
Clayton West could have the destination of the Division 1 title within their control over the next two Wednesdays. This week they take on the leaders, Lower Hopton, and then next week they meet up with 2nd placed Thorpe Green 'A'. As they currently sit in 3rd position by winning both of these fixtures they would certainly elevate their own claims for a first Winter League title.
The bottom two teams meet up this week with a win for Meltham paramount in their battle to retain Division 1 bowling for next season. Lindley BC 'A' seem doomed to lose their top-level status but who goes down with them is wide open at present. Only 4 points separate the next 5 teams and one of them will surely be dropping down a level come the end of the season.
Two of those 5 in danger are Kirkheaton Con and New Millers who meet up this week with the memory of an 8-0 win for the New Millers from their earlier encounter very much on both teams minds. The Cons haven't won any of their 3 matches since beating Lower Hopton 8-0 in early December.
Thorpe Green 'A' remain second at present and one point behind the leaders and will be looking for a big win when they take on Lindley Lib this week to boost their title hopes.
We have a promotion confrontation in Division 2 this week as the teams in 2nd and 3rd positions go up against each other. Third placed Lockwood Con ended a run of 6 consecutive defeats with a 6-2 win over Rastrick 'A' last week but can expect to have a much stronger challenge this Wednesday when they meet Lowerhouses 'A' who have won their last three fixtures to open up an eight point gap between the teams.
The table toppers, Lindley BC 'A', can also expect to have a rough ride when they take on a Jackson Bridge side still in the relegation places despite being unbeaten in their last five matches.
Another interesting head-to-head match with two teams locked together in mid-table and both on 40 points as Denby Dale and Milnsbridge 'A' face each other. Also on that same points total sits Springwood 'A' and they meet Rastrick 'A' this Wednesday. Neither side are in great form with Springwood without a win in their last four fixtures and Rastrick clocking up only a solitary victory all season.
