Preview of the Division 1 & 2 fixtures at Milnsbridge and Springwood this Wednesday
It is the last round of Division 1 fixtures before the Christmas break and the catering teams are well into the seasonal spirit. The Milnsbridge team are pushing the boat out, they never need an excuse to go one step further and Pulled Pork or Turkey sandwiches with stuffing and apple sauce are on the menu along with all the traditional seasonal follow-ups of mince pies and Christmas cake.
Hopefully the on-the-green fayre will match the menu with the emerging top twosome of Thorpe Green 'A' and Lower Hopton both aiming to stretch their lead as they take on Kirkheaton Con and Meltham respectively. Those are the four teams that have all sat in top spot already this season and a fifth one could be joining them if results go the way of Clayton West. They take on Lindley Lib 'A' who were the victors when the two teams met earlier in the season so plenty of edge to this one.
With three-quarters of the Lindley BC 'A' team not available this week it doesn't look good as they take on New Millers with the teams occupying the bottom two places at present.
Lindley BC 'B' continue to set the pace in the Division 2 promotion chase and their 10-point lead will be thoroughly tested this week when they take on third-placed Springwood 'A'. Both teams lost last week, the Lindley BC team for the first time this season, so both will be looking for a quick return to form with 2nd placed Lowerhouses 'A' an interested party who will meet bottom-of-the-table Rastrick 'A'. Things could start to get interesting very soon.
Milnsbridge 'A' and Lockwood Con do not count themselves out of the promotion chase especially as they face teams below them in the table this Wednesday. However both those lower-situated teams picked up valuable points from their matches last week, Denby Dale 8-0 (v Springwood 'A') and Jackson Bridge are now unbeaten in their last three fixtures as both look to move away from the drop zone.
