Callum wins Ribblesdale

Club News

One of the biggest competitions in crown green bowling is the Ribblesdale Classic based in Clitheroe with a prize fund of £8,000 with £1,600 going to the eventual winner. Perpetual competition winner Callum Wraight from Shrewsbury is this year's winner of the title and the cash after Sunday's Finals Day. A full day that finished under the floodlights and in the rain at 9.00pm after a full day of competition.

Very professional setup with a junior competition running in parallel with the big money one and John Parrot turning up on the day to make a number of presentations and raise some money for charities. The live video link was excellent as well despite the two commentators more interested in second-guessing the bowlers, spouting their opinions and personal memories rather than what was happening on the green but that is easily rectified by turning the sound down.

Three Yorkshire bowlers in the last four but it was the odd man out who prevailed. Huddersfield's Josh Brown reached the semi-finals but Callum Wraight was in winning mode by then and he was swept aside with the comfort of a cheque for £550 as a losing semi-finalist. Ryan Clark put up a very spirited performance and was leading several times during a match which saw both bowlers have chances to open up a bigger gap. Both sent down some great woods but Callum was on a run and the smell of the big money was too grand to ignore.

A bumper £1,600 for the winner and £1,000 consolation to the runner-up. The missing scores from this otherwise full record of Finals Day below are: Semi-Finals: Callum Wraight 21-4 Josh Brown Chris Mordue 16-21 Ryan Clark FINAL: Callum Wraight 21-18 Ryan Clark
