Big first win for Almondbury team

Winter League

Report on the Division 4 fixtures played on Monday 11 December

What better way is there to clock up your first win of the season than beating the Division 4 leaders? That is what happened this Monday when struggling Almondbury BC A recorded their first win of the 2023-24 season by beating New Mill B 6-2 with a 13-point aggregate difference, (58-45). After losing their first 5 matches by the same 2-6 scoreline there was a hint of improvement last time out when they salvaged a 4-4 draw with Kirkheaton C&BC courtesy of a 51-50 aggregate win.

Going one better this week with a totally unexpected win which deprived the New Mill side of a chance of extending their lead at the top of the table. Almondbury remain in the relegation places for now but if they can reproduce that level of performace again they will soon shoot clear of the drop zone.

With second-placed Thorpe Green C without a match the opening was there for the New Mill team to cement their dominance of the table but the Almondbury side had other ideas. Third-placed Lindley Lib C also missed out on an opportunity to take close order on the two leaders when going down 2-6 to Lowerhouses B which extended their winning run to four matches as they steadily climb the table.

Netherton Con A being the only top-four team to win their match this week when they saw off Milnsbridge C 6-2. Kirkheaton C&BC were the other winners on the day as they beat bottom-of-the-pile Springwood B 8-0.
