The finalists in the Men’s and Ladies Champion of Champions will descend on Monk Sports & Social Club, Hillock Lane, Woolston, Warrington WA1 4NF over the last weekend in September to decide the 2022 champions. This will be the first time these championships will have been staged away from the iconic bowls venue of the Waterloo Hotel in Blackpool.
On Saturday 24 September the Men's competition is staged and has been covered on these pages already. Then on Sunday, September 25, attention switches to the Ladies’ Champion of Champions with the field decided in a similar fashion to the Men’s competition.
Warrington bowler Karen Galvin is sure to receive lots of local support as she bids to add to her three previous titles. Nicola Boulton, who has won the event on four previous occasions in 2005, 2007, 2015 & 2016, will be strongly tipped by many to take her fifth title.
Lynsey Gorman is another previous winner in the field and has qualified as the Merseyside Merit champion. Two sisters are in the event with Emily and Shannon Kernick of Warwick & Worcester, and they could meet in the last eight.
Again, there are 2 spaces yet to be decided in the event with the winners of the Ladies’ Waterloo and Talbot trophies still to be added to the field.
The event starts at 10am and entry is £10 for the men’s event (Saturday 24 September|) and £5 for the women’s. There will be refreshments served throughout the day.
Nicola Boulton (2007, 2015, 2016), Karen Galvin (1990, 1991, 2002), Lynsey Gorman (2017) and Wendy Jackson (2000) are all former winners of the ladies' competition.
