Review of the Julie Fuller Trophy matches played on Thursday 23 May
The biggest surprise of the Round of the Last 32 teams in the Julie Fuller Trophy was that there were so few surprises. A competition known for shock results was sparse on that front this time.
However it was a bad week for Lindley Lib A. On Monday the Division 1 leaders lost their League fixture against Golcar C&BC by 7-0 to plummet 7 places down the table. Then in the Julie Fuller they were knocked out by Division 2 side New Mill who didn't need their handicap advantage to see them through to the last 16. And that was about all on the shock-front.
Netherton Con continued the defence of their title with a comfortable passage against a 4-man Golcar Lib team and Greenhead Park B could only muster four bowlers as well to end their involvement in this year's competition.
The rerun of the 2023 Final never got off the ground as Lockwood Con failed to turn up for their match against Clayton West who were left waiting for them to put in an appearance. League Bye-Law 8d) states: Any club failing to turn up for a match without giving notice to the League or Competition Secretary and their opponents shall be liable to a £20 fine and forfeiture of the match.
The most interesting result of the round came with the meeting of the two top teams in Division 3 when Brockholes B played Denby Dale. Brockholes B extended their unbeaten run by running out victors by 75-66 and putting a stake in the ground in advance of the first league meeting between the two teams on the first Monday in June.
Eight of the Last 16 teams left in the competition are Division 1 teams and four of those eight feature in two all-Division 1 team clashes in the Round of the Last 16 which is shown below along with the neutral greens to be used.
