Veterans League Preview of all the 6-Man League fixtures to be played on Monday 20 May
With only 4 points separating the top 8 teams in Division 1 and with four of those teams facing each other there is much to play for this week. Last Monday the top four teams all lost their matches to contribute to the gridlock at the top of the table and some of those teams cannot afford a second bad week.
Lindley Lib A and Slaithwaite were in that pack of four losers but hanh on to the top two positions but will be looking to bounce back to maintain their interest but that will not be easy as both have away matches at other top eight opponents this Monday. The leaders, Lindley Lib A, have to go to Golcar C&BC who have won their last two fixtures as have 3rd placed Netherton Con who host 2nd placed Slaithwaite.
Waterloo had the result of the day last Monday when they beat the leaders 5-2 on their own green so matches cannot come fast enough for them in this form which sees them on a run of three straight wins and a home match against lowly Paddock I&C this week. They are only two points behind the leaders and could be about to launch a real title bid in their first season in the League.
Bottom of the table Lockwood Con will not welcome a trip to play another top eight team in Brockholes A with two other bottom four residents, Crosland Moor and Shepley A go up against each other. Shepley have home advantage and have won 2 of their last 3 matches whereas Crosland Moor are on a run of four straight defeats.
Skel Windmill A have won all their home matches to date and one against Thongsbridge A should be within their scope whilst Milnsbridge A at home to Marsh United A completes the Monday fixture programme,
Golcar Lib and Clayton head the Division 2 table with both on 33 points and both have home matches this week whilst the nearest three rivals to them all face away trips. Golcar Lin take on a Milnsbridge B team that has lost 4 of their last 5 fixtures whilst Clayton West have to take on a top five team in Bradley & Colne who have won their last four matches and are finding their feet in their first season in the League.
After a promising opening run of three wins, Marsh Lib A have gone off the boil with three defeats that followed and have to go to third-placed New Mill this week who will have to be in good form to prevent the gap behind the top two teams not widening.
Elland C&BC are really struggling again this season after relegation from the top flight at the end of last term and their record hasn't improved at all this year. At least they have a home fixture this week but 4th placed Holmfirth A will regard this match as an opportunity to close the gap on the leading trio.
Linthwaite Hall remain second from bottom and an away match at Longwood is unlikely to accelerate any improvement in their standing whilst Greenhead Park B will aim to pick up enough points from their home match with Hemplow to pass their opponents in the table.
There are two morning fixtures in the Division 3 programme this Monday with Denby Dale (v Greenhead Park B) and Brockholes C (v Skel Windmill B) both having 10.30am start times. Second-placed Denby Dale will be hoping to extend their 100% win record and put pressure on the leaders Brockholes B who don't play until Friday this week away at Thongsbridge C.
Marsh Lib B sit third in the table and have to go to play Thongsbridge B this week which will test their away day prowess. Marsh United B lead Primrose Hill Lib by 3 points having played one match more than this week's opponents and will aim to make home advantage pay against a team that is still looking for a first away win of the season.
