Winter League
It was a good week for three of the bottom four teams in Division 2 who all won their matches but that hasn't provided any clarity about the relegation fight with the bottom two swapping places but remaining in the relegation places.
Huddersfield Recreation Club had lost all their five matches coming into this week's round of games when they met top four team Jackson Bridge. The outcome was a surprise to both teams as the Recreation Club racked up an 8-0 win to move them off the bottom of the table. Unfortunately for them the next team above them, Thorpe Green 'B' also won 8-0 this week so stay out of reach with a 6-point advantage over their rivals. That win came at the expense of Paddock I&C who drop to the foot of the table as a result.
The meeting of the current and previous teams to head the Division 2 table went the way of the current leaders Meltham with a 6-2 win over Springwood 'A'. Although beaten Springwood at least had the satisfaction of being only the second team to take any points off the leaders this season. That win came in the singles and was especially sweet for Nick Beswick. Nick was nilled in his only other match for the Springwood team, two weeks ago. Then this week he was drawn to play Barry Gibson who had won 6 out of 6 games in the Winter League and had also beaten him to 6 the previous day in a Hove Edge Winter League match so hardly the ideal build up for this confrontation. However Nick reversed all the formbooks to run out a 21-16 winner to claim the two points for his team. Well done Nick. That all left Springwood still in third place with Lindley Lib wedged between the top two teams after their bye-week.
The remaining match saw Denby Dale return to winning ways with a 6-2 home win over the team immediately above them in the table, Almondbury BC. The gap between the two teams has been halved to 4 points with no change in the running order as is the case throughout the division except for the bottom two exchanging places.
