Youngest ever C-of-C winner?

Memories

When Harry Lumb's photograph appeared as the Huddersfield Champion-of-Champions winner speculation mounted that he might be the youngest Champion of all time. However, Harry dismissed that suggestion when he revealed that he is 25 years old.

Dave Parkin is the go-to man for bowling history and Dave found three more younger contenders. Scott Fisher was still eligible for juniors bowling in 2005 so when he won the Champion-of-Champions in 2010 he would have been around 23. When Steven Hirst won the title in 1998 was around the same age as Harry was of 25.

Paul Rangeley has added to the mystery by suggesting that the 1975 winner G. Leighton was 16 years old at that time. His knowledge comes from verbal statements from individuals present at the competition final so I expect that Dave will be on the case very soon.

For now Dave reckons that Richard Priestley might have a claim to being the youngest-ever winner of this prestigious title which has been contested almost every year since 1945. Elland Merit Winner, Richard, was 19 when he lifted the Champion-of-Champions title in 1986 at Marsh United. Peter Muff's Examiner report of that achievement is below.
