Bowling News
As reported on the Yorkshire County Crown Green (Ladies) Bowling Association Facebook Page
The Yorkshire Ladies Merit was won by Alexis Lunn-Gadd who retained the trophy having won it in 2022, after defeating Yorkshire Captain Andrea Buckley 21-18 in the final. There was some fantastic bowling throughout the day, and with no easy games, the trophy could have been won by any number of players.
Andrea’s route to the final saw her defeat Julie Mallinson and Jacquie Roper to get to the quarter finals, followed by wins against Alex Edmondson and Jasmine Kendal to reach the final. Alexis’s route saw her defeat Pamela Lindley and Debi Davis before defeating Chloe Hirst to reach the final.
The final was a real game of 2 halves, with Andrea taking a 12-2 lead with superb bowling on a mark she’d made her own during the competition, across the middle of the green. A couple of 2’s and a couple of fortunate strikes going from 2 down to 2-up saw Alexis claw her way back and take a lead at 19-18, followed by 2 single shots to clinch the win.
Burley in Wharfedale Bowling Club were fantastic hosts, the green was immaculate and the ladies and gents kept us fed and watered throughout. Special thanks to all those who marked, measured and supported the event and to Sheila Whitely for doing a sterling job keeping the competition going and keeping everyone on their toes.
Congratulations to the 6 qualifiers for the British Ladies Merit final to be held in July at Tarleton, Lancashire - Alexis, Andrea, Chloe, Jasmine, Suzy Ladbrooke and Debi
