There were shock results in both semi-finals of the BCGBA Senior County Championship including the elimination of the Yorkshire team by 421-434. The away team lost by 51 points (186-237) and the home team won by Derbyshire by 38 points (235-197) so the team fell 13 points short of progressing to a third consecutive Final. Having won the title in 2021 and 2022 it is really disappointing to miss out on an attempt at a hat-trick of wins for the team that has achieved so much over the past two seasons.
There was a surprise in the other semi-final as well where Staffordshire beat Shropshire by 40 points (437-397). Neither of the two finalists made it past the group stage last year. Well done to the Derbyshire and Staffordshire teams who surpassed all expectations and prevented the expected rematch of the two 2022 finalists.
The competition was first played for in 1908 and in the 115 years since Derbyshire have only won the title once and that was in 1990. Over that same time period, Staffordshire have won it four times, the last time being in 1996. The Final will be played on Sunday 3 September.
