Following the publishing of the last four local leagues' 2024 fixture programmes we can update and complete our Year-on-Year table. This now covers the last 11 years and includes 18 local leagues and unfortunately one of those, the Heavy Woollen Parks League, is no longer functioning. For the others we include annual team numbers as shown below.
Since our earlier report last month the four remaining teams have completed their Bowlsnet fixture programmes which is the source of all this information. None of the last four have reported a drop in numbers from last year as the Works League has added one more team whilst the Colne Valley League has attracted a net increase of three teams. The other two both staying put on the same number as last year with the Liberal League on 19 teams and the Junior League remaining with 7-member teams.
The table below is sorted into an order reflecting the 5-year changes in team numbers. Only three teams show an increase in team numbers over the past 5 years. However, just comparing current team numbers against last year's totals the picture is a little more encouraging. Of the 17 leagues still in business 12 of them show an increase or no change over the past 12 months with only 5 leagues recording a drop in team numbers.
