Winter League
You may have noticed the term of 'Guest Bowler' being added to the Bowlsnet registration and results for some bowlers in the Winter League. This is an updated rule introduced for the 2022-23 season so not surprisingly I have been asked a couple of times 'What exactly is a Guest Bowler and why do we have them?'
The League Match Play Rules 3 & 4 cover the formal provision of guest bowlers but basically what it means is that each team can register any number of guest bowlers who have never played for their club in any summer league competition. Then in any one match they are allowed to play no more than one of their registered guest bowlers.
The thinking behind this is that this practice will open up winter bowling to bowlers whose clubs don't have a team in the Winter League and will hopefully provide them with a positive experience which may lead to their usual club entering teams into the League in the future.
We have started adding the term Guest Bowler to the Bowlsnet registration to enable teams to better manage team selection to ensure that they don't play any more than one guest bowler in any one match.
So that is what it is all about and we have a bit of catching up to do in adding the term 'Guest Bowler' to all such registrations on Bowlsnet but we are getting there.
