Veterans League
It is still very early days in the season but it already feels that some fixtures are more important than others. For example Golcar Lib 'B' v Skel Windmill sees the teams in 2nd and 3rd places in the early Division 3 table and level on points. The pair finished 3rd and 4th last season just outside the promotion places. When they met each other last season the home team won 8-1 both times. Those two results damaged both teams' promotion chances and they have both started positively again this year.
Lockwood Con 'B' top the table courtesy of a better 'Aggregate For' total but level on 8 points with the other two top teams. This Tuesday they travel to play Slaithwaite who started with a disappointing away defeat at Denby Dale who finished last season in 5th position and will be aiming for better this time around.
The two teams promoted from Division 4 currently occupy the bottom two places after losing their opening matches last Tuesday. Meltham 'B' and Outlane both have home fixtures this week when they expect to improve their points tally.
There is a top-two clash in Division 4 when leaders Thongsbridge 'B' travel to play Springwood with both teams picking up 7-2 wins last week and both looking ready for a good season. The other two 7-2 winners from last week are both stood without a game this week as it is Marsh Lib's turn to sit this week out and the two Kirkheaton C&BC teams have postponed their matches due to a clash with the funeral of club member Allan Dobson.
Marsh United 'B' play for the first time this year and they go to play Lindley Lib 'B' who are looking for a first win of the season. As are Primrose Hill Lib and Lindley BC 'B' who go head-to-head. Also after a first win are Ravensknowle Park who entertain Almondbury BC 'B' who are aiming for a second consecutive win.
In Division 5 last week's top performing team, Greenhead Park 9-0 winners over New Mill 'B', have to go to the tricky Crosland Moor green to play lodgers David Brown Sports who were not disgraced when going down 3-6 away at Dalton last week. Dalton have an away match at Broad Oak 'B' to look forward to and they sit 2nd in the table at present. Brockholes 'B' had a good opening day away win at Hemplow 'B' and will be aiming to build on that in this week's home fixture against Holmfirth 'B' who are playing their first match of the season.
